[inside] series

The [inside] series started production last year, especially driven by the context of the covid-19 pandemic. The poetic-artistic process of this series articulates art-science-technology and has in medical images, which "scan" the interior of the human body, its starting point. Images taken during diagnostic exams of different parts of my own body and the bodies of others, family members and strangers. In this process, I poetically explore the medical image as a testimony to the physiological materialization of the subjectivity of these bodies, of the feelings they experience throughout their lives. Specifically in [inside | jellyfish], [inside | aware] and [inside | dreaming] my focus is on the impacts of these feelings on the spine. In this investigation, visuality is built from the algorithmic relationships between the countless digital image layers of the internal and external dimensions of my own spine. The internal dimension, revealed by the diagnostic images, and the external dimension, registered as a photograph, unite like an algorithmic amalgamation, in the loss of limits between the inside and the outside of the body.

Rachel Zuanon is a media artist and designer. Professor and researcher in the Arts Institute and in the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Urban Design, both at the State University of Campinas [UNICAMP], Brazil. She is a co-founder and a co-coordinator of the DASMind-UNICAMP [Design, Art, Space and Mind: Transdisciplinary Cooperation Network in Research and Innovation]. Her scientific researches, artworks and design projects have been exhibited and published in several well-reputed international and national periodical and books in the fields, and presented in a number of countries such as Canada, China, Japan, Germany, Greece, Portugal, Singapore, Taiwan, Turkey, UK, USA, Vienna, among others. Honored and awarded with important international and national prizes, since 1998 she has been dedicated her researches, artworks and design developments to the cooperation between Neuroscience, Artificial Intelligence, Creative Process and Design Process.
